On Friday, 2 December 2005, The NMCP Safety Department and the Naval Safety Center kicked off the 2nd Annual Traffic Safety Campaign along with many supporters from the Hampton Roads Community and beyond. Rear Admiral George Mayer, Commander of the Naval Safety Center was the guest speaker and RADM T. K. Burkhard, Commander, NMCP, presented the annual safety awards to Pastoral Care, Neurology/Endocrinology Clinics, Security, and a special award to Ms. Jean Bonnette, Graphics, for her support of the safety program throughout 2005.
Community exhibitors included the Portsmouth Sheriff's Office, Portsmouth Police Department, Virginia State Police, Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), Mothers Against Drunk Driver's (MADD), Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), HERO Campaign, Drive Smart Virginia, Alcohol Substance Abuse Program (ASAP), Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU), NMCP DAPA, Naval Safety Center Traffic Safety Division. This year staff and visitors got to view the MADD victim boards which displayed pictures of hundreds of victims of drunk drivers.
The NMCP Safety Department wishes to thank the many volunteers that helped organize and participate in this years event. It is this type initiative, support and dedication that helps us promote safe driving this holiday season and throughout 2006.
