Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO) is the oldest healthcare accreditation group in the country. Joint Commission accreditation recognizes an organization’s performance in complying with national quality standards. These standards are intended to help organizations:
Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth’s overall evaluation score of 94 in July 2000 is reflective of the organization’s ongoing commitment to meeting the highest quality of care standards for our patients. We are extremely pleased with the results of this most recent voluntary and objective Joint Commissions survey, but we also welcome it as an important tool to help us identify areas where we can continuously improve our care. The findings also provide a benchmark from which we can measure our performance against more than 1,200 hospitals nationwide.
Of 45 performance areas evaluated by the JCAHO in 2000, NMCP earned the highest score (1 = substantial compliance) in 36 of those areas. Surveyors awarded the second highest rating (2 = significant compliance) in 8 additional performance areas.
