Service Societies
Each service has a relief organization that provides emergency assistance in the form of no interest loans, partial loan/grant and possibly a grant (based on financial situation and ability to repay) for things such as rent, utilities, food, automobile repair, emergency leave travel, and other financial emergencies. Each case is unique and they will work with you to find a solution.

Specific Information for Pregnant Sailors
New Parent Resource Awareness Workshop,
This four hour workshop assists expectant service women as they make the transition to parenthood. Topics discussed include the Navy's policy on pregnant servicewomen, Navy Family Care Plans, housing information, child care resources, FFSC programs and services , the WIC program and information on career planning. Primarily for first time expectant sailors and marines. Their partners are strongly encouraged to attend with them.
When : New mothers should attend soon after their pregnancy is confirmed . The workshops are offered monthly at Naval Station Norfolk and quarterly at the other sites. Exact dates, times and locations are published in the Signal , at the FFSC website: http://www.ffscnorva.navy.mil and at the Education Station in each OB clinic.

Note: * Fleet & Family Support Center for Naval Station Norfolk is not on the Naval Station. It is south on Hampton Blvd in the personnel services mall. Participants should call or drop by to sign up for the class.
What : A layette (baby stuff) containing a hand knitted blanket, sweater booties & hat, blanket, hooded towel & wash cloth, 2 crib sheets, 4 onsies, bibs, carry bag and a Baby's 1 st year book.

New Parent Support Home Visitation Program
Description:
The New Parent Support Home Visitation Program (NPSHVP) is a voluntary home visiting education program for expectant parents and parents with children up to age three using the "Nurturing Parenting Home Base" curriculum.
Parents can request services on their own or they may be referred to the program by their health care provider, the service member's command or family support program staff.

New Parent Support Home Visitation Program central office is located at the Little Creek Fleet and Family Support Center, however staff covers the Peninsula and South side. The central office telephone number is 757-462-8024 and the fax number is 757-462-4472. An Intake worker is available Monday through Friday from 0800 until 1630.
