Labor & Delivery Unit
953-4601/4602/4603
Welcome! We are looking forward to assisting you and your family with your pregnancy and delivery.
About Our Unit
The newly remodeled Labor & Delivery Unit consists of 7 triage (pre-admission evaluation) beds, 10 labor & delivery rooms, 4 observation rooms, a fully functional 3-suite operating room and a 4 bed post surgical recovery room.
In our 7-bed triage area, women 20 weeks gestation and greater are routinely evaluated to determine the appropriate level of care needed for their particular concern. From triage, a patient is either admitted, observed and reevaluated, sent back to duty or sent home with instructions.
The 10 newly remodeled labor and delivery rooms provide laboring women and their families a private, comfortable environment in which to deliver. Twenty-four hour in-house coverage is provided by anesthesia, obstetrics, perinatology and neonatology.
If you think you are in labor or have question about labor, go to Am I in Labor?
Where Do I Go When I Get There?
Go directly to Labor & Delivery Triage on the fourth floor, located immediately off the main elevators (numbers 5-6-7-8).
Check in at the triage nurse's station- have your ID card ready.
You will be asked to fill out a check in sheet with your pregnancy history and your reason for coming in.
You will be asked to verify your family member prefix (FMP)- this is relevant to DEERS. The prefix for Active Duty members is 20. The prefix for the spouse is 30. (If you are the second or subsequent spouse of the sponsor, your prefix is 31, 32, etc.)
Pre-admission Guidelines
You can and should complete all your admissions paperwork prior to going into labor. While you can do this at anytime, we recommend you do it between your 20 th and 34 th week. Since you come to NMCP for your 20 week ultrasound, this is a good time to do this.
Go to the admissions department located on the first floor at the main entrance. You can get a pre-admission packet at any open service window. Complete the packet and return to the admissions department. This does not have to be the same day. The packet contains
- Information Papers which you have to read to complete the back side of the General Consent to Treatment form.
- Admissions Worksheet (front & back)
- General Consent to Treatment form, NAVMEDCENPTSVA 6320/25 (REV2/05) (front & back)
- Privacy Act Statement, DD form 2005
- Third Party Collection Program, DD form 2569 (Note: you have to complete this form even if you don't have other insurance.)
The completed packet is kept on file until L&D calls for it. If you are admitted for another reason prior to delivery, this paperwork will be used then. You will have to sign new General Consent to Treatment, Privacy Act and Third Party Collection forms to have a pre-admission packet on file.
Immediately after the birth, your baby will receive prophylactic eye treatment to prevent infection, a vitamin K injection to help with blood clotting and his first Hepatitis B vaccination. If for religious reasons you do not want any of these procedures, you must make arrangements prior to the birth of your child through your doctor or the Labor & Delivery Unit.
