DERMATOLOGY DEPARTMENT
GUIDELINES FOR THE PRIMARY CARE PROVIDERACNE KELOIDALIS NUCHAE
HISTORY:
Pruritic bumps and pustules found on the nape of neck, most commonly in black males between the ages of 14-25.
PHYSICAL
Round or dome-shaped follicular papules, 2-4mm in diameter which develop on the nape of the neck, on the scalp or below the hairline. Commonly seen in patients that use clippers to keep scalp hair short.
DIAGNOSIS:
Clinically evident process.
TREATMENT:
Apply the following three agents to the areas of involvement twice a day for 6-8 weeks:
Cleocin-T soln
Retin-A 0.05% soln
Temovate 0.05% soln
Avoid using clippers! NO SHORT HAIRCUTS!
DERM CONSULT
If the above regimen does not improve the patients condition significantly or for large keloids (> 8mm) requiring injection with kenalog.
