CMC PinMaster Chief Boss was born in Tampa, Florida and raised in Lakeland, Florida where graduated from Lakeland Senior High School in June 1980. He began his Naval career on 01 December 1983 at Recruit Training Command followed by Hospital Corpsman “A” School in Great Lakes, Illinois.
   
He reported to his first duty station at Naval Weapons Station Marine Barracks, Charleston, South Carolina. He held a variety of assignments including Leading Petty Officer of military medicine. During this tour he was advanced to Third Class Petty Officer.

In February 1987, Master Chief Boss reported to the USS Hawes (FFG-53) stationed in Charleston, South Carolina. During this tour, the ship twice deployed to the Persian Gulf, escorting super tankers through the Straights of Hormuz. At the conclusion of his first deployment, Master Chief Boss was advanced to Second Class Petty Officer under the Command Advancement Program.

Following his initial sea tour, he was accepted to the Submarine Independent Duty Corpsman School, Groton, Connecticut, where he graduated with high distinction and again meritoriously advanced to First Class Petty Officer. After graduation, Master Chief Boss deployed with Fleet Hospital in support of Operation Desert Storm.

At the end of Operation Desert Storm, Master Chief Boss reported to the USS George Bancroft (SSBN643)(Gold), stationed in Charleston, South Carolina. He completed four strategic deterrent patrols prior to its decommissioning in February 1993. Master Chief Boss immediately reported to the USS John C. Calhoun (SSBN 630)(Blue) where he made two strategic patrols before the submarine homeport change and scheduled decommissioning in Bremerton, Washington.

Although Master Chief Boss’ tour was cut short due to the submarine’s decommissioning, it provided him another career opportunity to be part of the initial ground breaking of the Branch Medical Clinic, Everett, Washington. During this tour he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer and served as Leading Chief for Military Medicine and Family Practice clinics.

After a successful tour at Branch Medical Clinic Everett, Master Chief Boss was hand selected for duty as a Hospital Corpsman detailer at the Bureau of Naval Personnel and later Navy Personnel Command, Millington, Tennessee. He was directly responsible for the assignment of 2200 hospital corpsmen and acted as section leader in which he oversaw the placement of 7,500 hospital corpsmen worldwide. During this tour, he was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer.

In December 1999, Master Chief Boss felt the call to return to sea and reported to the USS Emory S. Land (AS-39) stationed in La Maddalena, Italy. He was assigned as the Leading Chief Petty Officer for the Medical and Dental Departments. During this tour he deployed in support of Operation Allied Force during the Kosovo Liberation and to the Eastern Mediterranean during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer in May 2002.

In July 2003, Master Chief Boss accepted orders to US Naval Hospital, Keflavik, Iceland as the Command Master Chief. During this tour he was selected into the Command Master Chief (9580) Program.

Master Chief Boss reported October 2004, as the Command Master Chief, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, MARFORPAC, Okinawa, Japan.  During this tour, he deployed to Sri Lanka in support of Combined Support Force-536, Operation Unified Assistance and both Indonesia and Pakistan in support of humanitarian relief efforts.

March 2007, Master Chief Boss reported to his current billet as the Command Master Chief of the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth / Navy Medicine East.

Master Chief Boss is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 94.   Master Chief Boss’ awards include: Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), Good Conduct Medal (five awards), as well as many unit awards.
